Drum Class & Circle with Yahaya Kabore

EarthMovers Drum Collective Picnic at Johnson Park

July 14, 2024 at 4 PM

Many of you met Yahaya Kabore recently at the Touch Mother Earth BEST Fest.
Now we get a private class followed by an open drum circle. The event will start with a warm-up and specific rhythms.
Yahaya is from Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso in West Africa; he feels and communicates the stories and histories of ancient and modern West Africa through his drumming. Yahaya plays the djembe, djun, kora, balafon, and other instruments. He will be offering instruction for djembe and djun but you may bring other drums.
We will meet at Johnson Park at the OPEN GROVE off Johnson Park Drive, Piscataway, NJ. approx. marker GPS 40.507440,-74.447667
(SEE EXACT DIRECTIONS BELOW)
Class is $20 and includes the open drum and dance circle that follows.
We will have a potluck picnic break between the class and circle.
We will have a table for the food and drinks.
You can attend just the open drum circle at 6:00 pm for $5.
If you need a drum and a chair, let us know, $5 rental.
DIRECTIONS:
Take 287 to exit 9 River Rd. and head towards Highland Park/Piscataway, or take Rt 18 or Rt 27 to River Rd. Piscataway, and head towards Landing Lane.
From River Rd. Piscataway – turn onto Landing Lane then LEFT into the park (Johnson Drive). Follow ~1 mile to OPEN GROVE* below.

From Easton Ave – take Landing Lane and turn RIGHT into the park (onto Johnson Drive). Follow ~1 mile to OPEN GROVE* below.

*OPEN GROVE (shady) is located ~1 mile from Landing Lane on the riverside heading toward Rt 27. Signs for the drum circle will be posted.
THE GROVES ARE NUMBERED. You will pass #4, #3, Violet Drive, and Rose Drive and find the Open Grove sign on the RIGHT across from an Open Grove parking lot. There is a small building on the left side of the parking lot. We are across from the parking lot heading toward the river under the shade trees and somewhat near the picnic tables. You can unload and park if needed. We will have signs.
NOTES:
If you happen to come down Violet Drive, turn L at the end and we will be down in the OPEN GROVE on the right with parking on the left side of the road.
We are NOT by Grove 5 – that is a ONE-WAY road. If you are on that road, drive past the old village out to the traffic light and turn right. Come down to the light at Landing Lane.
LISTEN FOR US or come early and help set up!

Expert West African drummer Intermediate Drum Class & Circle with Yahaya Kabore and EarthMovers Drum Collective at Johnson Park

Learn new rhythms at our Intermediate Drum Class & Circle with Yahaya Kabore

Imagine a group of people picking up a drum or some percussion; and the next thing you know, everyone in the park is jamming! The air is filled with motivating sound and movement. You are floating and really feeling the beat! Join us for an outdoor afternoon of the drum. There is nothing better than drumming and dancing and hooping out at a park. We are at our usual spot at the OPEN GROVE (yes, that is what the sign says). Bring your own chair, drums, and other percussion instruments, food, water, flow toys, bug spray, etc.
EarthMovers Drum Collective was formed so that everyone could have fun drumming in a circle and share in the rhythm and excitement of the collective drumming experience.
Founder and facilitator Dave Miller started drumming with pots and pans, but his love for the art of drumming really grew in 1997 when he held a backyard garden blessing and friends came with drums and percussion. He married Cheryl Glover in 2019 and together they tour offering a hybrid drum class/drum circle up and down the East Coast.
